At Vale Primary School we believe it is every child’s right to have access to a broad, balanced and differentiated curriculum.
A pupil has an Additional Learning Need (ALN) if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for them to be able to access the curriculum.
In accordance with the Guernsey ALN Code of Practice, if a child has a need which requires additional intervention, their name will be placed on an Additional Learning Needs Register which is monitored by school and the Education Department.
At Vale we follow the graduated approach and a four-part cycle of assess, plan, do, review. Where a child is on the ALN register, they will have a termly Individual Provision Map (IPM) which outlines measurable and achievable targets with strategies to enable success. These are set termly by the class teacher with advice from the ALNCo and shared with parents. The ALNCo will monitor that the strategies are being implemented and with the class teacher review the effectiveness of the support and interventions and their impact on the pupil’s progress.
We have close working relationships with a range of Education Support Services to ensure a high level of support. If you have any concerns about your child having special educational needs, please contact your child’s class teacher.
