In the summer red and white check dresses with red cardigans can be worn. Grey or black shorts can be worn too. Tracksuit bottoms are not suitable as part of our school uniform. We are also an accredited ‘Sun Safe’ school so children are expected to wear a sun hat from May to the end of September to appropriately protect them from the sun during these months.
As a Sun Safe school, we also encourage children and staff to wear sun hats from May to the end of September.
Jewellery, dyed hair, fake tattoos and inappropriate shaved haircuts are not appropriate school uniform. White or coloured trainers, non-uniform sweatshirts, boots, ‘crocs’ or sandals, nail varnish are not part of our school uniform.

Parents who need assistance in purchasing clothing may contact the Education Dept. 733000 for an application form. Only one application form is necessary each academic year unless your financial circumstances change. Should you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the Headteacher or the school office.
Physical Education
Children will need a change of clothing, usually shorts and T-shirt [a T-shirt in their respective House colours] for games and PE lessons. Drawstring bags are needed (suitable for storing games kit and swimming gear). Girls are expected to wear one-piece costumes for swimming and boys are expected to wear trunks above knee-length and made of light material. Swimming caps are available from the usual stockists. Fashionable Accessories
While the school appreciates that fashion for young children is constantly changing, we try to maintain a traditional code of appearance through the wearing of school uniform. At the same time, the personal safety of each child is of paramount importance. With this is mind;
We allow children to wear;
- One studded earring in either or both ears
- Watches
- Bracelets relating to a medical condition
We do not allow children to wear;
- Wear necklaces, chains or bracelets
- Wear multiple, hooped or dangling earrings
- Have dyed hair or patterned/shaved haircuts
- Wear high heeled/platform shoes or knee length boots
Should you wish your child to wear one of these, we suggest you contact the school directly. Watches and earrings must be removed before children participate in physical activities.
Activity wrist trackers / iWatches / Fitbits or similar are not encouraged in school and school will not take responsibility for these should they be broken or damaged.
Mobile phones are discouraged throughout the school and are not acceptable in lessons or break times. In exceptional circumstances, through close negotiation with the school and Headteacher should a mobile phone come into school, it should be handed in to the school secretaries accompanied by a letter from parents stating the reason it needs to be in school. However, the school reserves the right to confiscate the phone should it be used inappropriately or contravenes our e-safety/mobile phone policy. At the same time, if a mobile phone belonging to a pupil is brought into school and subsequently lost, stolen or damaged on school premises or during a school visit, the school does not accept responsibility for meeting the cost of replacing the item.

Pupils’ Property
Children are not permitted to bring matches, knives or other dangerous items to school.
All money should be brought to school in an envelope clearly marked with your child’s name and class and should be handed to the class teacher or into the school offices. Cheques brought to school for activities such as Book Club, for example, should be made out to ‘Vale Primary School’.
The school will take all reasonable measures to prevent loss or damage to pupils’ property. If something belonging to a pupil is lost, stolen or damaged on school premises or during a school visit, the school does not accept responsibility for meeting the cost of replacing the item. Parents are encouraged to protect their children’s property through their own household insurance.
